Attorney Bio
Gabriel D. Shelton is a litigation attorney in the Reston, VA office of Melone Hatley, P.C., where his work supports the firm’s family law and estate planning practice areas. Gabriel is a graduate of American University Washington College of Law, where he primarily focused on family law, wills, trusts and estates, tax, and bankruptcy and creditors’ rights.
Gabriel has prior legal experience across tax law, federal regulatory enforcement, and business immigration. He completed a summer clerkship in tax practice, where he prepared personal and business tax returns, drafted memoranda in response to IRS and state tax notices and assisted with bylaws and articles of incorporation for nonprofit organizations. He also served as a summer legal intern with the Federal Communications Commission Enforcement Bureau, Fraud Division, drafting memoranda on the Debt Collection Improvement Act and supporting antifraud investigations.
Earlier in his career, Gabriel spent several years in business immigration, managing corporate visa applications, global immigration assessments, and case coordination for legal teams.
Gabriel earned his Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law and his Bachelor of Science in Political Science, with a minor in History, from Old Dominion University.
Outside of the law, Gabriel spends most of his time with his family. He also enjoys playing golf, going to the gym, video and board games, and playing the bass guitar.
