About April Johnson

April Johnson, Esq. is the Lead Litigator in the Tampa, FL office of Melone Hatley, P.C. Her practice includes divorce, child custody, child support, and property division, with experience in contested custody disputes and modifications of alimony and support. 

April brings more than a decade of litigation experience to her family law work. She has represented clients through every phase of a contested matter, from initial consultation and discovery to hearings, trials, and mediation. Her document work spans divorce petitions, custody and support agreements, prenuptial agreements, motions, and final judgments drafted in compliance with the Florida Family Law Rules of Procedure. 

Before her family law practice, April handled high-volume civil litigation. She managed a caseload of more than 500 personal injury matters for insurance carriers, and she spent seven years as staff counsel for GEICO in Tampa, overseeing glass litigation files with reserves above $5 million. Early in her career, she served as a Senior Attorney for the Florida Department of Financial Services, representing the state Chief Financial Officer before administrative, circuit, federal district, and appellate courts. 

April’s background in litigation sharpened her legal instincts and courtroom presence, but it was her desire to make a more personal and lasting impact that led to shift her focus to family law. She is dedicated to guiding clients through some of life’s most difficult transitions. Known for her calm resolve and strategic mindset, April is committed to delivering compassionate advocacy with thorough preparation and relentless determination.  

Outside of the office, April embraces her role as a proud sports mom. She lives in Tampa with her husband and two children, where weekends often mean cheering from the sidelines.
