Michael Gemstone, Esq. is a Litigation Attorney in the Virginia Beach, VA office of Melone Hatley, P.C., where he represents clients in complex family law cases involving divorce, child custody and visitation, spousal and child support, and equitable distribution of marital property. With nearly two decades of experience in Virginia courts, Michael combines practical insight, meticulous preparation, and unwavering commitment to helping families find stability during times of change, developing his reputation as a trusted divorce lawyer and family law attorney.
A lifelong Virginia Beach resident, Michael has extensive experience before the General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relations, and Circuit Courts across Hampton Roads. His familiarity with the local courts and judges gives his clients a valuable advantage, whether through negotiated settlements or courtroom advocacy. As a divorced father of two, Michael brings both professional skill and personal understanding to his work, offering clients strategic guidance paired with genuine empathy.
In addition to his legal practice, Michael is a licensed Real Estate Broker in Virginia. He draws on this knowledge and experience to help clients navigate the financial and practical challenges of dividing real property in divorce, ensuring that important decisions about the marital home and other real estate assets are made strategically and with a full understanding of their long-term implications.
Michael began his legal career at the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia, where he assisted individuals facing complex and often urgent legal challenges. After earning his Juris Doctor from the Appalachian School of Law, he entered private practice, developing a diverse background including civil litigation, negotiation, and mediation. This experience enables him to anticipate challenges, manage conflict effectively, and pursue outcomes for his clients that reflect their goals and best interests. Michael applies this expertise towards delivering results as an experienced and reliable Virginia Beach attorney.
Outside the courtroom, Michael is a devoted father who enjoys coaching youth soccer, fishing, and exploring the outdoors. He serves as Head Coach for Beach FC Youth Soccer, mentoring young athletes and fostering a love of teamwork and discipline. An avid outdoorsman and craftsman, he also enjoys carpentry, mechanics, and competitive shooting sports, pursuits that mirror the focus and precision he brings to his legal work.
