Attorney Bio
Jeffrey Ambrose, Esq. is a Litigation Attorney in the Newport News, VA office of Melone Hatley, P.C., where he brings more than a decade of courtroom and trial experience to his family law practice. A seasoned advocate and skilled litigator, Jeff is known for his composure in high-pressure situations and his ability to develop persuasive strategies in both bench and jury trials. These skills help Jeff build a reputation as a skilled divorce lawyer and family law attorney.
Before joining Melone Hatley, Jeff founded and operated his own law firm, representing clients in a wide range of complex and high-stakes legal matters. Over the course of his career, he has successfully handled hundreds of trials, including intricate family law disputes. His background in family law, criminal defense, and appellate work gives him a unique perspective on analyzing cases from every angle, enabling him to anticipate challenges and craft tailored, results-driven solutions.
Jeff believes that effective advocacy begins with understanding the human story behind each case, and he takes pride in guiding his clients through some of life’s most personal and difficult moments with empathy, patience, and precision. His combination of trial-tested skill and compassionate counsel has earned him a reputation as both a formidable courtroom presence and a trusted ally to his clients as a Newport News, VA attorney.
A graduate of William & Mary Law School, Jeff gained valuable insight into judicial decision-making while clerking at the Office of Administrative Law Judges in Newport News. He earned his undergraduate degree with honors from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, where he double majored in Computer Science and Political Science and minored in Mathematics.
Originally from Midland, Michigan, Jeff is committed to public service and has provided pro bono legal assistance to individuals through Legal Aid, helping families secure uncontested divorces and access justice. Now residing in Hampton Roads, he is a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, an accomplished jazz saxophonist, and an avid reader.
