Attorney Bio
Erica Chua Hawkins has been practicing law in Virginia since 2002. She began focusing her practice on family law in 2018 after becoming a guardian ad litem for children and later for adults. Prior to concentrating her career on family law, she practiced in many areas of civil litigation. She has represented clients in diverse practice areas, such as elder law and estate planning, civil suits and insurance defense, real property, creditor debtor law, and business representation.
Ms. Hawkins believes that her well-rounded background helps her to be a better family law attorney because many family law issues overlap with other areas of the law. Business or property law may determine ownership and transfer of some family assets, and estate planning or retirement concerns are very important when drafting or negotiating marital agreements. Although the legal aspect of family law is extremely important, the hardest part of divorce is the human element- there are few things in life as stressful as divorce. Her goal is to not only give the best legal advice but to make sure her clients understand and participate in their case, understand their options, and feel well- advised to make the most appropriate decisions in their matter.
Ms. Hawkins is a member of the Fairfax Bar Association. She is licensed to practice in Washington DC since being admitted in 2006.
Ms. Hawkins is originally from Minnesota but has called Virginia home for over 20 years. When she is not practicing law, she enjoys being active outdoors, exploring Virginia and the DC area, and spending time with her family.
