While much of what goes on in Hollywood is outlandish and unbelievable to most of us; Kanye did touch on some very common feelings that parents face in divorce—being able to be a parent to their children.
Kanye discussed that he should have a voice about what his children are wearing, what they are eating, what they are watching, and who they get to hang out with—because he is famous, he was able to use his platform to have a voice, something most parents can’t do.
It is not uncommon for parents to going through divorce to feel like they have lost their voice, and their rights, with their children. Even in the best of circumstances, one parent is going to likely be able to make most of the decisions regarding the children, and this can cause a lot of issues.
When going through a divorce with children it is important to remember to not focus on fighting the other parent, but focus on what type of parent you want to be when the divorce is over—and start being that parent today. The biggest mistake we see is when one parent lets the other parent take over with the hope that the court will just change everything.
If you have children and are going through divorce, you need to fight for your voice—we are your partners in that fight.
